Are you ready to learn a few tips on how to remember your choreography? Let's start

Stand in the front:

Okay, I know that standing in the center of the dance class can be a daunting task. But if you stand at the front and have space around you, it will be easier to learn routines. This way, you can get a clear view of the teacher and the routine and moves you’re learning.

Watch this video to get more tips on remembering your choreography!

Break it down:

You learn choreography better when you break it down into smaller sections. When you do this, the whole routine is not too hard to memorize. Most times, teachers will introduce one part of the choreography at a time. Take your time and work on just that one section before you learn the rest of the routine!

Try not to focus your eyes on your instructor:

Once you have learned the choreography, remove your gaze from your instructor. Turn around so they can’t see. This will help you remember this choreography because there are no visual cues for how to do it.

Take permission and record your instructor teach:

Ask the teacher first if you can video them counting steps to a beat. Then you can study at home. But be quick. You wouldn’t want to interrupt the class. However, try to film your teachers back in a mirror, so they are not facing you. Try this when they are teaching a class. It will be easier for you to see their movements from behind (mirroring).

Speak out your steps:

Be your teacher. When it comes to dance, trust us and speak out every move. You can also use words or counts so you know what’s the next position. By doing this you will remember the next move and not forget how many steps there are.

Well, we thought we should leave you with a few extra tips! So, come on. Let’s read about it.

  1. If you have a bunch of choreography to remember at once, just go all out with the choreography you remember the most. You can always mix the dance steps and makeup freestyle dance moves!

  2. You may have days where you are better at routines than others. The important thing is that you remember why you came to class. Give it your best when you are not feeling so confident. In dance, confidence is key! If you do the choreography with lots of energy, people will see how good of a dancer you are.
